Perched on Bainbridge Island overlooking Seattle, designer Taylor Ogle takes on her most challenging project.
Her number one task was getting the entire family comfortable with her design plan. Her mother prefers a clean contemporary aesthetic, while her stepdad is quite traditional.
Piecing together two different styles in this Norman–style house, meant pleasing both parents. Ogle teamed up with Peter Brachvogel of local architecture firm BC & J. Together they installed a new master suite which connects to the house via a window- lined breezeway.
A great deal of the exterior remained the same, except for the windows & doors.
“ I had always envisioned the house with big Portella steel doors,” she said.
The house now has dramatic views of downtown Seattle.
Being on an island, “ the best part of the house is in the back,” she says, where the home backs onto the water’s edge.
The living room doors open up to a magnificent space outside for morning coffee and evening sunsets, while watching the boats go by.
